Fernando started out as a CAD draftsman in a posh architecture shop back in his college days, while working towards a degree in industrial engineering. After his graduation, he went to work for Birmann Construtora Ltda.—the famous builder of several landmark office buildings in São Paulo city—in the capacity of Cost and Performance Analyst. At Birmann, Fernando scrutinized an adjusted budget totaling US$ 8 Million per annum, and assisted his manager oversee the operations of 4 high-end office buildings occupied by prominent tenants such as Microsoft, Chase, and Deutsche Bank.
A year later, Fernando assumed the position of Art Director at a boutique advertising agency invited by art director Sergio Fuentes, who was impressed with his skills as an illustrator and digital artist. There, Fernando designed logotypes, brochures, magazine ads and illustrations for their clients in insurance, medical services, automotive sales, and internet service.
The following year, Fernando and Sergio left the agency to join Chris D’Carlos and founded their own studio. At D’Carlos & Covett, the trio and a small team of designers created a successful variety of print materials and websites involving brands such as Raytheon, Garmin, Berlitz, Kao-Bioré, Acciona-Cubiertas, InPrima, and HSBC.
In a partnership with film studio Imagem & Cia., Fernando developed several websites and multimedia presentations for a diverse clientele comprised of corporations such as Sodehxo, AGF, Banca Nazzionalle del Lavoro, Samsung, Newcomm-Bates, and Alpargatas-Santista.
For 2 years, Fernando wrote a monthly column for Brazil's main graphic design publication Revista Design Gráfico, on which he discussed the business aspects of running your own studio. He interviewed international designers and sponsored a student design competition that was featured on HOW Design magazine. Some of Fernando’s work has been displayed amongst the top-ranked logos on HOW Design, for which he also facilitated an interview with influential Brazilian designers such as Milton Cipis.
Since his move to the US, Fernando has been engaged in the development of best-selling computer games made with C/C++, Obj-C and Swift for the Mac and mobile platforms. He has acted as game designer, software engineer, and public relations strategist for a best-selling indie game developer based in France.
Fernando has fostered key relationships with game reviewers in the US, Canada, and the EU. He also ushered in the entry of “Jammin’ Racer” for the Apple Design Award. The game won 2nd place in the games category, just after “World of Warcraft” by Blizzard, and received 4.5 out of 5.0 mice by MacWorld magazine.
Fernando has developed an interactive video & data streaming system for Novavista, a company that provides custom and branded video broadcast to Mastercard, Banco Itaú, Citi, and the Reebok Sports Center. In addition, he has created corporate ID, print ads, packaging, and websites for Nestlé, Blockbuster, Disney, IKEA, Reebok, Procter & Gamble, and General Mills, amongst others.
Recently, Fernando has contributed to the creation and marketing of widely popular video-games and apps that are enjoyed by millions of users worldwide on macOS, iOS, Android, and BlackBerry, and has created fresh new brands for a few startups.
He holds a degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.
